Viveu v\u00e1rias d\u00e9cadas da sua vida, primeiro na \u00c1frica Austral, depois na Calif\u00f3rnia e agora em Portugal, onde teve a sorte de liderar in\u00fameros grupos de trabalho e de conviver com pessoas motivadas e inspiradoras. Doutorou-se em f\u00edsica, estudou o <em>stress<\/em> oxidativo nos seres vivos e interessa-se pela forma como lidamos com o risco. Criou e ajudou a criar v\u00e1rios institutos de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e v\u00e1rios programas doutorais em Berkeley e no Porto, sempre multidisciplinares.
