O seu mandato foi o culminar de 21 anos de servi\u00e7o ininterrupto na lideran\u00e7a parlamentar, tendo desempenhado 14 fun\u00e7\u00f5es ministeriais e de oposi\u00e7\u00e3o, incluindo a de primeira mulher Presidente do Partido Conservador e a de Ministra da Administra\u00e7\u00e3o Interna durante mais tempo no \u00faltimo s\u00e9culo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renunciou ao mandato de deputada em 2024, ap\u00f3s 27 anos de representa\u00e7\u00e3o dos seus constituintes em Maidenhead. No mesmo ano, foi nomeada membro vital\u00edcio da C\u00e2mara dos Lordes.
