Paulo Macedo

Paulo José Ribeiro Moita de Macedo (born in Lisbon on 14 July 1963) is a Portuguese executive and former government official. Since 2017, he has served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), Portugal’s largest state-owned bank.
He holds a degree in Business Organization and Management from the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG), part of the former Technical University of Lisbon (1986). He also completed the PADE – Advanced Management Program for Executives at AESE Business School (2003), and has undertaken executive training at internationally renowned institutions such as MIT, Harvard Business School, INSEAD, and IMD.
Throughout his career, Paulo Macedo has held prominent positions in both the public and private sectors. He was Director-General of Taxes from 2004 to 2007, served on the Executive Board of CGD, and was Minister of Health in the 19th Constitutional Government (2011–2015), where he implemented significant structural reforms in the National Health Service.
Known for his technical expertise, discipline, and strategic vision, Paulo Macedo is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in Portuguese banking and public administration.
